Sky Sports presenter Abi Davies was forced to apologise to viewers after Michael van Gerwen swore live on air. Van Gerwen was speaking on stage moments after his 7-3 loss to Luke Littler in the final of the World Darts Championship was confirmed on Friday night. The Dutchman gave a brutally honest assessment of his performance after going down to the 17-year-old sensation.

The 35-year-old surrendered his record as the youngest world champion, which had stood since 2014. But he was gracious in defeat, praising Littler's composure on the biggest stage. However, he also let slip a swear word for the second successive night on Sky, describing himself as "an old b******". Davies let him finished before quickly apologising to viewers for any offence caused.

It comes just a day after Van Gerwen said "I've won f*** all yet" following his semi-final win over Chris Dobey. In the end, the Dutchman was proven right as his opponent stormed into a 4-0 lead to break the back of the final. Van Gerwen fought back to win three sets, but Littler never looked like buckling under the pressure. He pocketed the £500,000 winners' cheque, having gone one better than his runner-up finish against Luke Humphries last year.

"I went 4-0 behind and after that I thought I wasn't doing myself any justice, but that's the way it is," Van Gerwen said. Order your souvenir 48-page publication celebrating Luke Littler's historic World Championship win now. Buy now on our online shop!.
