SOPHIE ELLIS-BEXTOR is welcoming 2025 with some very special guests during her New Year’s Eve concert on BBC One. I can reveal she will be joined by Jessie Ware and Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears for the glitzy concert, where she is performing a series of pop hits.
Sophie pre-recorded the one-off special in London on Tuesday and was also joined by the gospel choir MDL Singers. The Murder On The Dancefloor star dueted with fellow disco favourite Jessie before teaming up with Jake for two songs. I’m told they sang Filthy/Gorgeous as well as Take Your Mama, for which they were accompanied on guitar by Emily Roberts from rock band The Last Dinner Party.
It comes ahead of the Scissor Sisters’ 2025 reunion tour that will see the band play arenas across the UK and Ireland to mark the 21st anniversary of their self-titled debut album. When Sophie’s special was first announced, she said: “I always love a party, and I immediately think of sparkles, singing and dancing for a New Year’s Eve celebration.
“That’s what I’ll be bringing with me for my BBC One performance this New Year.”. The show, which will kick off at 11.30pm and continue after the midnight fireworks, has a different headliner each year. The 2023 helping was fronted by Rick Astley, who was joined on stage by Sharleen Spiteri and Rylan Clark.
