SPFL Review: It's the season Aberdeen woke from a beautiful dream... and Rangers' nightmare continued

For a while, it looked as though this Premiership season had the potential to be a little bit different, perhaps even an outlier of once-in-a-generation proportions. After all, Aberdeen fans do not often chant ‘we’re gonna win the league’, as they did less than two months ago, when a 2-1 victory against Rangers maintained their unbeaten start to the season.
That, though, has proved to be fanciful in the extreme, although splitting the Old Firm might just remain a possibility if Rangers continue to make such hard work of things, on and off the pitch. As the final round of top-flight games was concluded, the impression was that normal service is gradually being resumed, with the obvious exception of second-bottom Hearts.
They, however, will surely do enough to pull clear, as Hibs have done already. Celtic will run away with the title, Rangers will sack another manager and bottom-placed St Johnstone will cling to the hope that Ross County can be caught. Plus ca change….
Jimmy Thelin, who made a sensational start as Aberdeen boss, is now winless in eight games. Dundee United's Kevin Holt celebrates scoring a late winner against Aberdeen at Tannadice. Philippe Clement has made hard work of managing Rangers, whose next game is against Celtic.
ABERDEEN. After a flawless start that led to talk of a title challenge, their recent form is that of a bottom-six side. Their latest defeat, by Dundee United, leaves them winless in eight games. On reflection, their successful run included plenty of tight matches, which could easily have gone the other way. Will the real Aberdeen please stand up?.
