RICKY EVANS has hit back at his haters after reaching the World Championship second round. The 34-year-old saw off Gordon Mathers in a nailbiter at Ally Pally on Wednesday night. Evans donned a Santa outfit as he walked to the stage accompanied by Shakin' Stevens classic Merry Christmas Everyone.

And Rapid - who is known for his lightning-fast release with the darts - lived up to the festive hype at the Oche. He hit six maximums and averaged 86.23 on his way to a 3-2 underdog win over Aussie veteran Mathers. Writing on X after the contest, Evans said: "So, so pleased to be through to round two!.

"I was far from my best, and GG pushed me all the way, so I'm over the moon to still be in the tournament. "Thank you so much for the support, hope you all enjoyed the walk on! See you Monday.". Later in the day, he added another comment on social media - and hit back at online trolls who targeted him for his weight.
