The stepmother of Sara Sharif landed a “very easy” prison job while awaiting trial for the murder of her stepdaughter last year, according to reports. Beinash Batool, 30, was found guilty last month of murdering the 10-year-old girl with her partner after a “campaign of abuse” the previous year.
Sara’s father, Urfan Sharif, was sentenced to 40 years in prison while Batool was handed down a 33-year sentence that she is serving at HMP Bronzefield. According to a former prison inmate, Batool quickly secured a job in the prison library while awaiting trial last year.
The newspaper claims that Batool was allowed to cook food for the other inmates during Eid, a holy celebration to mark the end of Ramadan where Muslims fast during daylight hours. The Standard has approached a representative for HMP Bronzefield for comment.
Last year, a court heard how Batool and Sharif inflicted a catalogue of injuries on the young girl in their care before they ultimately killed her after several years of abuse. The eight-week trial revealed that Sara had suffered a slew of abuse by those responsible for her wellbeing. She was forced to cover her injuries with a hijab and was eventually removed from school.
Police found Sara’s body two days later, laden with injuries including burns and bite marks. She was found alongside a handwritten note that said: “Whoever sees this note, it’s me, Urfan Sharif, who killed my daughter by beating.”. Sharif later called police from Islamabad and confessed: “I’ve killed my daughter. I legally punished her, and she died.”.
