The Met Office has warned of a storm bringing strong winds and potential disruption to parts of the UK. Storm Eowyn, a deep area of low pressure, is set to arrive in the UK on Friday. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, covering potential risks to property, travel disruptions, public services, and possible power cuts.
Read on to find out where Storm Eowyn will impact the UK, according to the latest Met Office forecast. The weather warning primarily focuses on the north-west of the UK, affecting Scotland’s northern and western coasts. Heavy rain and strong winds will move in from the north to London and much of the rest of the UK. After a particularly windy Friday, the weekend is expected to brighten, although conditions will remain wet at the start, with strong winds easing into Saturday.
By Sunday, the winds should have largely died down, but there is a forecast of light rain and highs of around nine degrees. The Met Office has warned residents in Scotland of potential damage to buildings, such as tiles being blown from roofs. It also warned of the risk of power cuts and disruptions to services like mobile phone coverage.
Winds are forecasted to reach 50-60mph inland and 70-80mph along coastal areas, though these speeds are unlikely to extend as far as London or the south. The strongest winds are expected to arrive overnight, so they are unlikely to impact commuters or travel in and around London.
