Stormzy has been banned from driving for nine months at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court after using a phone behind the wheel of a Rolls Royce. The rapper, named Michael Ebenazer Owuo Junior, 31, pleaded guilty via a letter to driving the Rolls-Royce Wraith while using his device on Addison Road, west Kensington, shortly after 3.30pm on March 7 2024.

The undercover officer knocked on his ‘tinted’ passenger window and said ‘get rid of your tints and get off your phone’, Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court heard on Thursday. District judge Andrew Sweet banned the rapper, who was not present in court, from driving for nine months and fined him £2,010.

A court heard in September that the musician was allegedly caught by an off-duty police officer using the device behind the wheel of his £225,000 car. Prosecutor Alice Holloway previously laid out details of the alleged incident on Addison Road, saying: ‘He is an off-duty police officer who saw the defendant driving while using a mobile phone.’.

She continued: ‘His vehicle was alongside Mr Owuo junior’s vehicle, and although the windows were tinted he could see the defendant using the mobile phone while driving.’. Holloway also claimed the PC ‘produced footage’ which was ‘automatically taken while he was driving’.

This comes after Stormzy pleaded guilty to driving his Lamborghini Urus on Coombe Lane, Kingston upon Thames, on 17 October 2023, with illegally tinted windows. While there are no rules for tinting the rear windscreen or rear passenger windows, there are laws in place to stop front or front side windows being too dark.
