For the second time this year, Strictly Come Dancing is making history. Comedian Chris McCausland became the first blind person to win the beloved BBC competition, and now, for the Christmas special, we’ve had our first Drag Queen win. The line-up this year included comedian and The Last Leg star Josh Widdicombe, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK finalist Tayce, and presenter, podcaster and DJ Vogue Williams.
They were joined by Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, known as Nitro in Gladiators, EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite and former racing car driver Billy Monger. And it’s now been revealed that Tayce was crowned the winner of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special, alongside her professional dance partner, Kai Widdrington.
Dancing a Cha-Cha to Kylie and Dannii Minogue’s 100 Degrees, the Christmas champions wowed the judges and the studio audience before lifting the glistening Strictly Christmas star-shaped trophy. Ahead of her win, Tayce said she had seen an ‘overwhelmingly positive’ response to being named in the cast.
The 30-year-old said: ‘It’s such an honour to be part of this amazing and highly popular show, pushing the envelope and breaking boundaries as the first drag queen to appear on it. ‘The response has been overwhelmingly positive, though there’s also been some negativity from trolls, but that’s nothing I can’t handle.’.
