Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas has opened up on how she maintains her weight at 64. As well as her role as Strictly Come Dancing's head judge, the star is keeping active, currently starring on Celebrity Bear Hunt with Bear Grylls. However, it's not just her active lifestyle that keeps her in shape. Opening up about how she maintains her size 10 figure, the star controversially revealed she eats just one meal a day.

“The first year on the Strictly Come Dancing tour, I gained ten pounds just in that one month,” she said. “Then I realised: 'you cannot eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, Shirley, you are over the age of 60!'“. Shirley then went on to tell The Sun she “ditched breakfast and lunch“ after previously eating “oversized portions“. Now, she just eats dinner, which she expressed was a portion of rice alongside a meat protein. However, she admitted to having a juice around lunchtime. “I do intermittent fasting,“ she said.

Intermittent fasting (IF) is when you go for extended periods of time without eating, followed by a period of eating normally. Shirley's intermittent fasting, following the 18-6 rule allows her to eat during one six hour window per day. The topic can be controversial, as some think it helps with weight loss, whereas others are more sceptical. According to Bupa: “Research suggests that it can be safe for healthy adults. But there’s not enough evidence to show what would happen if you did this type of fasting for a long time.“ Circumstances where it would not be suitable are in pregnant women and people with Type 1 diabetes. Plus, those who have a history of discorded eating or those who have anxiety or depression. It is recommended to check any health issues or concerns with your GP.

It comes just months after the star confirmed her split from fiancé Danny Taylor, 51. Previously speaking on the matter, she revealed: “Currently, I've just split with my boyfriend. My relationships have been a disaster, all the way along the line. “But what I am truly grateful for is that I still have my mother, and that she lives with me, and I get these precious moments with her,“ the Strictly Come Dancing judge added. Recently, viewers saw the star a tense disagreement with Mel B during Netflix's Celebrity Bear Hunt.

The Strictly judge became frustrated after the former Spice Girl made provocative remarks to fellow campmates before brushing them off as jokes. "I can let somebody be a diva for so long until I feel someone else is being picked on," Shirley explained. "I've dealt with divas in my industry all my life. There's nothing that could shock me.". "But when you're living together and can't retreat to your own home, all you ask for is mutual respect. If someone keeps pushing buttons just to get a reaction, I don't like that. I think it's completely unnecessary—though I know it makes great TV!".

"If somebody's pushing someone's buttons and trying to get reactions out of people, I don't like that. I think it's totally unnecessary, but I know it makes great TV!," she told WhattoWatch.
