Kendrick Lamar has opened up about his upcoming Super Bowl 2025 halftime show set list. The rapper, 37, was announced as the headline act of the halftime show in September last year following his feud with fellow rapper, Drake. While it may be his first time headlining the huge event, Kendrick has previously performed at the Sueprbowl, back in 2022, with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. He'll be joined by collaborator SZA who will appear as guest during his lavish performance which is estimated to last between 12 and 15 minutes during the game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs at the Caesars Superdrome in New Orleans. Rumours have also suggested that Taylor Swift, the girlfriend of Chiefs star Travis Kelce may also make an appearance, having collaborated with Kendrick on the track Bad Blood.
But just days before he takes to the stage, Kendrick has shared an insight into his setlist and admitted it has been difficult to narrow down his tracks which include his 2011 debut, HiiiPower and All the Stars, featuring SZA. "It's wild," he said, adding: "Mr. Morale is like an hour and thirty minute tour, so you gotta smack this s**t down all the way to 13 minutes!". Appearing at the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show conference, he added: "It's kind of wild and it's interesting, because it lets you know kind of where you at in your perspective, how you think about catalogue and music. For me, I love being present, I love being present, man.
"It's very hard for me to live in the past, it's very hard. I respect the past, wholeheartedly, but being in the now and being locked into how I feel and the energy I have now, that's the LA energy for me. That's something that I wanted to carry over to New Orleans and for the world to see. "This is me, this is Kendrick Lamar, 37-years-old and I still feel like I'm elevating, I'm still on the journey, though, you know? I want that energy to ooze out into the televisions and to the people that's in that building.".
NFL fans can watch Super Bowl 59 for 99p with DAZN's NFL Game Pass. Usually £19.99, this includes the authentic US broadcast and provides access to all NFL content until July 31. Contrary to what many might think, Lamar won't be pocketing a large sum for his appearance. In reality, he won't receive any payment for his performance. While this may raise eyebrows, it's actually standard practice for Super Bowl halftime performers not to be paid. Instead, the NFL takes care of all the costs involved in staging the show, including travel expenses.
The 59th Super Bowl is set to kick off at 11.30pm on Sunday from the UK, with each four quarters lasting 15 minutes. However, American football has a very stop-start attitude meaning that Kendrick could be performing any time around midnight through til 1.30am, with the match expected to end at around 3.30am UK time. This year, the event will be airing on ITV for free from 10.45 following Barney and Bradley Walsh's Breaking Dad series.
