A drug dealer who was vaping on his bike when he was caught became "very jittery" when the illegal contents of his backpack were revealed, a court heard. Pranas Zaliauskis was found to be in possession of hundreds of pounds of heroin and crack cocaine, as well as a rubber glove stuffed full of cannabis, when he was stopped by police in the centre of Warrington, Merseyside last year. He was also carrying a knife, blowtorch, and a screwdriver. Zaliauskis, 33, was seen lashing out at officers and wrestling with them in the road near passing cars as they tried to arrest him.

He has been jailed for three years. On Wednesday, Liverpool Crown Court heard that Zaliauskis had been spotted on CCTV taking part in a suspected drugs deal at around 10pm on June 27. He was seen vaping on a bike before cycling away, and handing over a small bag containing a white substance to an unknown male in exchange for money.

Ken Grant, prosecuting, told how the defendant was then stopped and searched by police nearby, where he "appeared jittery and nervous". He pulled his arm away from the clutches of one officer and shoved him, reports Hull Live. Zaliauskis, who moved to the UK from Lithuania, then struck a PC several times to his chest as he tried to escape, and continued to throw punches at both of the officers as they wrestled in the road. A screwdriver fell out of his pocket during the scuffle.

After he was finally restrained, police found him in possession of 29 wraps of crack cocaine worth £290, nine wraps of heroin valued at £90, a total of £240 in cash and a mobile phone. A search of his backpack meanwhile revealed a small blowtorch, several pairs of pliers, a number of screwdrivers, a Stanley knife, a pair of scissors, a set of nail clippers and a blue medical glove "stuffed with an unknown substance" which later transpired to be a quantity of cannabis.
