Taylor Swift fans urge her to ‘run’ after Travis Kelce’s Trump comment

Swifties are usually heaping praise on Travis Kelce but his response when asked about US President Donald Trump has not gone down well. Despite being declared a love story, fans are now telling Taylor Swift, 35, to ditch her NFL boyfriend over his supposed politics. Travis, also 35, was asked about the controversial figure ahead of Super Bowl 59, which will see the Kansas City Chiefs face the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

This is the first time a sitting president will attend a Super Bowl, which the tight-end said was ‘a great honour, no matter who the president is’. He added at a press conference on Wednesday: ‘I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there – it’s the best country in the world so it’d be pretty cool.’. This comes after Taylor endorsed Kamala Harris in the election and has previously spoken out against Trump’s behaviour.

Her endorsement even prompted Trump to announce that he ‘hates Taylor Swift’ on social media, after sharing fake AI endorsements from the singer. Travis’ comments have caused concern among swifties, especially after friend Brittany Mahomes appeared to take a pro-Trump stance last year. Fans have never been afraid to let their opinion on Taylor’s relationships known, even if their idol is directly telling them to tone it down in her songs.

They took to X to tell the megastar to ‘run’ and break up with her boyfriend — a fairly mild reaction considering there was an entire petition to get her to split with Matty Healy. Viktortvlis wrote: ‘So sad to see my girl surrounded by so many bad company, like Blake Lively, Brittany Mahomes, and now her own boyfriend. Taylor, girl, you better run.’. Her close friend Blake Lively is currently involved in a messy legal battle with Justin Baldoni after he was accused of sexually harassing her on the set of It Ends With Us.

‘That’s really embarrassing…if I were her I’d be dumping his ass,’ said catssillyworld of Travis. Popular social media account buffys shared Trump’s anti-Taylor post and asked: ‘How is it “an honour” when this was him literally a few months ago.’. ‘If my boyfriend says its a great honor to have the man that slanders me constantly i would break up with him immediately,’ added bubblegumhxrt.

However, others pointed out that NFL players are encouraged to remain politically neutral and anything inflammatory would likely make Taylor a target. Alltoopaige said: ‘Am i miss something….. yes he’s a white man, but considering how targeted taylor has been the last few years, this response to me shows neutrality and he is being careful to not say something that will make Taylor a target… “no matter who the president is” says it all imo.’.

‘Travis has been repeating the same media trained “it’s an honour no matter who the president is” for years and years,’ added kittygang_4ever. ‘He was never going to say anything different under Andy Reid’s “no politics, ever” leadership while clocked in at work, 4 days before the Super Bowl.’. ‘People need to remember he is doing press for the Super Bowl,’ wrote thoughtlesheart. ‘Not only is he representing himself, but the Chiefs, the NFL, and more larger entities and he gave a perfectly neutral response.
‘You guys are the ones that want to read between the lines to find something wrong with it.’. Many thought this could be a script or suggested response given to the players as teammate Patrick Mahomes used similar language. ‘It’s always cool to be able to play in front of a sitting president,’ he told reporters. ‘Someone that is at the top position in our country.’. Travis has never made his political leaning public, however, Trump himself has made comments on it.
‘I like her boyfriend, Travis, even though he may be a Liberal, and probably can’t stand me!’ he wrote on Truth Social in 2024. As for Taylor’s political stance, she has repeatedly come out in support of the Democratic party and even took aim at Trump in 2020. On X, she wrote: ‘After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? “When the looting starts the shooting starts”??? We will vote you out in November.’.
The Fortnight singer also made a dig at Vice President JD Vance in her post endorsing Kamala by signing off as ‘Childless Cat Lady.’. Metro has reached out to Taylor and Travis’ reps for comment.
