AN interactive map has revealed the ten worst places to live in Britain. Experts have crunched the numbers to rank every local authority in the UK for quality of life. The stats cover local crime rates, Ofsted school reports and GP waiting times. And the boffins also considered the number of listed buildings, parks and community assets like sports clubs.

At the bottom of the Sunday Times list - ranking as the worst place to live in Britain - is Rushmoor in Hampshire. Rushmoor has some of the worst NHS waiting times in the country and lacks many community assets. But the area is partly improved by its schools, which rank as the 35th best in the country.

Second place goes to Basildon in Essex, which The Economist last year described as the "most typical place in Britain". Basildon also has long NHS waiting times, and has relatively few community assets or listed buildings. Next come Dudley in the West Midlands and Castle Point not far from Basildon in south Essex.

Boston in Lincolnshire takes fifth place, followed by Fenland in rural north Cambridgeshire. Seventh place goes to Central Bedfordshire, and eighth to Tameside near Manchester. Rounding out the top 10 are Mansfield in Nottinghamshire and East Lindsey in neighbouring Lincolnshire.
