Let’s be honest – we’ve all thought 'What on earth has she had done to her face?’ when clapping eyes on someone’s strangely distorted features. With non-surgical ‘tweakments’ more popular than ever - plastic surgeons alone performed 19.1 million non-surgical procedures in 2023 in the UK - the chances of things going wrong, whether dramatically or just slightly, are inevitably increasing as well.
Of course, there is also personal taste – what you consider ‘odd’ may be another person’s idea of ‘fabulous’. So what are the most commonly seen telltale signs that a tweak has been poorly or over-enthusiastically done? And what can you do to correct them?.
We asked a few of the UK’s top aesthetic doctors... A super-smooth, shiny forehead that looks out of step with the rest of your face is a classic case of too much neurotoxin (such as Botox) having been injected. No face is entirely devoid of texture, so a good aesthetic doctor will leave you with movement and a few subtle lines – but then there are ones who don’t.
A super-smooth forehead is a giveaway that you've had 'work' done, whereas a good aesthetic doctor will leave you with movement and a few subtle lines. Plus, some neurotoxins are ‘longer-acting and spread more readily under the skin’, according to Knightsbridge-based Dr Wassim Taktouk.
‘Azzalure for example is less “contained” than Botox,’ he says. ‘If a practitioner doesn’t realise this, they may accidentally overdo things.’. Your doctor will tell you which toxins they work with if you ask, and how long the one used on you will last.
