The Traitors' train trio set to return in 'rail replacement' twist

The Traitors’ fans were left on tenterhooks tonight as the trio who volunteered to get off the train at the very start of this series looked to be making their way to the castle. In a teaser at the end of Friday’s episode, a clip showed a horse-drawn carriage “a few miles away” with signs on the side reading “rail replacement” and “to the castle”. Viewers immediately sussed that the shadowy figures onboard must be at least two of the players from the original 25 making their way back into the game. Only two people could be made out as they sat outside the carriage, above the horses, and their identities were concealed by hoods and golden face masks.
In Wednesday’s series opener, which drew an overnight audience of 5.1million to BBC1 - up 2 million on last year’s series opener - three players were forced to leave the competition before it even began. First to sacrifice her place on the show was 50-year-old Fozia, a community development manager from Birmingham, who quickly exited her carriage in order to allow the others to win the maximum amount of cash.
She was followed by market trader and landscaper Jack, 24, from Yorkshire, and ex-British diplomat Alexander, 38, from London. Afterwards, speaking on camera, all three seemed regretful and questioned what on earth they had been thinking. But there has since been widespread speculation that the trio - or some of them - would reappear at some point in the game.
The tease came after the Faithful reacted with joy at finally managing to banish a Traitor during Friday’s Round Table - following the loss of FOUR of the Faithful. Armani Gouveia became the first Traitor to leave the all-female “sisterhood” having received far more votes than any of the others, including one from fellow Traitor Minah.
