THE WEEKEND PREVIEW: Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin in desperate need of new blood as Dons look to finally snap out of big freeze

Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin must be starting to wonder if he ever truly left Sweden after all. Normally at this time of year, the former IF Elfsborg boss would have been content in the knowledge that his players would already be in full-scale R&R mode, feet up and just a few weeks into a well-deserved winter break following the conclusion of the football season in late November.
At least they had an excuse. Which is more than can be said for his current squad, who seem to have retreated into a collective hibernation of their own this winter. Thursday’s home defeat to Ross County — in conditions not too dissimilar to what Thelin might expect to find in the Arctic Circle at this time of year — made it four losses on the bounce for the Dons, and extended their winless streak to nine. Remarkable stuff.
The first few results in this bleak run could certainly be forgiven. Their unbeaten start to the season was always going to end at some stage, and it was St Mirren who finally inflicted some damage in Paisley. Back-to-back draws in Edinburgh against Hibernian and Hearts followed by a narrow 1-0 defeat to Celtic were hardly cause for alarm amongst the Pittodrie faithful either.
Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin applauds the fans at full-time after Ross County defeat. Disappointing midweek loss at Pittodrie was the Dons' fourth in succession. Shayden Morris cuts a dejected figure after seeing side's winless run extend to nine games. It’s what’s come since that now has them shifting uncomfortably in their seats.
