PACK AWAY: Pack up fragile ornaments and decorations individually in bubble wrap or old newspapers. You can divide a box using cardboard to help stop baubles from knocking against each other. Or egg cartons work perfectly for storing smaller baubles. You could also try cardboard coffee cup holders for any larger baubles.

Meanwhile, pop fabric, paper or felt decorations in resealable freezer bags to help stop damage. Then place them in a storage container — you can get foldable boxes for £1.25 at Poundland. Label the outsides of boxes so you know exactly what is inside, and keep in a cool and dry place to avoid any damage over the next year.

Outdoor decorations can be kept in weatherproof boxes, and store in a garage or shed. TANGLE-FREE TIPS: Christmas lights always seem to be a twisted mess when it comes to unpacking them each year. But you can do yourself a favour for next Christmas by simply wrapping your lights around a piece of cardboard before you put them away.
