Fans heaped praise on Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's new TGL golf league after tuning in for the first night of the new format on ESPN. The league began with New York taking on The Bay in the state-of-the-art SoFi Center in Florida on Tuesday night, and immediately the league had fans hooked.
With creators Woods and McIlroy watching on from the stands, the first match-up saw the likes of Xander Schauffele, Rickie Fowler and Matt Fitzpatrick taking on Shane Lowry, Ludvig Aberg and Wyndham Clark. As fans in the arena cheered and booed every shot, those watching on TV at home took to social media to give their thoughts - and it was remarkably positive for the first night of the league.
'I'm all in on TGL This is awesome!,' one wrote, while another added: 'This is so cool... love the fast play!'. Elsewhere, one commented that 'if they don't rent that facility out to people, they are missing out!'. TGL began to much fanfare in Florida on Tuesday, and fans were loving the ESPN coverage.
Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods will hope they're on to a winner with their futuristic new format. Fans hailed the drama and the excitement of the fast-paced new indoor format of the sport. Fans took to social media to give their thoughts, and the majority of the reaction was positive.
Some were more split, with one admitting: 'This TGL thing is either really cool or really dumb, I’m not sure which. It may be both.'. Much to the delight of fans inside the arena in Palm Beach Gardens, the action was fast and flowing, with The Bay racing into a huge early lead thanks to a series of huge moments, including a monster putt from Aberg that lifted the roof off SoFi Center.
