Tiger Woods has revealed meetings are being put in place to discuss the future of next month's Genesis Invitational amid the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. LA has been left devastated by the fires that have swept across the area over the past week, which has killed at least 24 people. Riviera Country Club is situated in one of the affected areas, and whilst the club has sustained no damage, it finds itself situated in the evacuation zone.
This has cast doubt over whether the iconic LA course, which is set to stage the US Open in 2026 and Olympic Games in 2028, will be able to play host to next month's Genesis Invitational on the PGA Tour. The event and course was where Woods made his debut on Tour, with the 15-time major champion now acting as the tournament host. The 49-year-old, who has strong ties to the LA area, discussed the prospect of next month's event going ahead, whilst also delivering a heartfelt message to those impacted.
Speaking on his TGL debut on Tuesday, Woods said: "It's just sad. Max [Homa] and I have grown up there. We're So Cal kids. To see what has happened, I've known a couple people that have lost everything, so it's just hard. As far as the Genesis, we're trying to just figure everything out and make sure that everyone is safe and we have meetings scheduled going forward.
"But as of right now, we're not really focused on the tournament. It's more about what we can do to help everyone who's struggling, who's lost homes and had their lives changed." There have been suggestions that the event will still go ahead but at a different venue.
