Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Tottenham were interested in Juventus-bound forward Randal Kolo Muani, but says he is "as confident as you can be" of adding to his squad this month. Kolo Muani is set to join Juve on loan from Paris Saint-Germain after interest from a number of Premier League clubs, but Postecoglou insisted Spurs did not reach an advanced stage of interest in the France international.
The head coach, whose side face Everton in the Premier League at Goodison Park on Sunday, has repeatedly called for help for his stretched squad in January, with a new forward the priority – particularly after a scan revealed that on-loan Timo Werner will face up to a month on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
Postecoglou insisted that Kolo Muani's impending move to Italy was not a setback for Spurs but acknowledged he was one of a numbers of players of interest. Asked if Spurs were pursuing the 26-year-old, Postecoglou said: "We've been interested and were looking at a number of players. But did we get to the point where we thought he was coming to us? No.
"The club is working as hard as it can and that's all you can ask for. January's not an easy month but I do know a lot of work is being done behind the scenes to try to get some reinforcements in. "[I'm] as confident as you can be. It is tricky, as all clubs are finding. And I guess traditionally it ramps up in that final week so we're approaching there for all clubs. It's even trickier in January because once you try to acquire a player, the club wants to replace that player. So there's all sorts of logistics involved. We'll see what's available and what help we can get.".
