Former Tottenham captain Jamie Redknapp has hammered Ange Postecoglou's side for their limp performance against Liverpool on Thursday. Spurs had carried a 1-0 aggregate lead into the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against the Reds. But they barely laid a glove on the Reds and were ultimately thrashed 4-0 by Arne Slot's side. It means their wait for a trophy will stretch past 17 years, with the 2008 League Cup their last piece of silverware. To sum up their awful performance on Thursday, the visitors failed to have a single shot on target over the 90 minutes.

It was that statistic that left Redknapp furious as he insisted Spurs had gone down 'without a fight'. He admitted to feeling sorry for the younger players in the team as he laid into Postecoglou's side. "I can't remember in my lifetime a team go down with less of a fight than Tottenham did today. Not having any shot on target in a semi-final second leg when trying to change the course of your history," Redknapp told Sky Sports.

"I felt sorry for their young players. Djed Spence played 14 different positions tonight. I've never seen anything like it. The experienced players need to make sure they set the right tempo. They didn't do that one bit. "There's been some lows but that today, looking at that scoreline, is just horrendous. From Liverpool's perspective it is absolutely fantastic. The way they got after Tottenham, suffocated them in the first half and set such a high tempo.

"They never let them get out or feel comfortable. The manager got everything right, the tactics...and when you've got Mohamed Salah up front, what a player.". Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher also ripped into Tottenham for their dreadful performance. But he insisted that Spurs have a long-term problem with delivering in big games. "It was never in doubt before the game. It's Tottenham! When do Tottenham ever win a big game? When do Tottenham ever go and surprise, win against the odds? The odds were massively in favour against Liverpool," he told Sky Sports.

"But it's not just this Spurs team. They never shock you, never do something out of the ordinary. I'm trying to remember the last big game they won: it was probably that semi-final against Ajax in the Champions League. "Whenever they go into a big game as a club, nobody ever believes they're going to win. That's not me as a Liverpool fan, those Tottenham fans there tonight - not one of them believed they were going to win and to go Wembley! They just won't.".
