Dakota Skye was once the hottest rising star in adult entertainment. By the time she was 21, the Florida-born performer, real name Lauren Kaye Scott, was nominated for every porn award in the business and had signed with the industry's top talent agent Mark Spiegler. Just a few years later, she was found dead in a homeless encampment on Skid Row. Scott's tragic death in 2021 came after years of drug abuse, rehab stints, and psychotic episodes.
Multiple family members even described her as being 'possessed by demons' during her short time on earth. Scott's story was tragic from the very start. Raised by a single alcoholic mother and a father she barely knew, she was a troubled child who was sexually abused at a young age. According to Rolling Stone, she was encouraged by a much older boyfriend to start webcamming at just 16 - despite the legal age being 18 - and by 19 she had entered the porn business.
Dakota Skye was porn's biggest rising star in 2015 (pictured), but she quickly spiralled into drug addiction before being found dead on Skid Row in 2021. Adopting the stage name Dakota Skye due to her resemblance to Dakota Fanning, who at the time was still one of Hollywood's hottest young starlets, Scott was quickly booked in a string of hardcore films. Standing at just 5ft tall, her petite physique and youthful appearance made her an instant success, and in 2015, when she was just 21, she was nominated for multiple awards at the AVNs - known as the Oscars of porn.
Much to the industry's surprise, Scott lost the coveted Best New Starlet award to Carter Cruise, which seemed to be the catalyst for her subsequent downward spiral. Scott already had a Xanax problem, according to ex-husband Zachary Lecompte-Goble, but she soon started popping 10-15 pills per day. To balance out the sedative effects of the medication, Scott would also smoke crystal meth. In 2016, she had an abortion so that she could continue working on her porn career.
Her drug abuse exacerbated her mental health issues and she became paranoid and violent, which led to her pulling a knife on her then-husband. She often accused people of sexually abusing her and believed that shadowy forces were pursuing her in a bid to end her life. Multiple family members described the young star as being 'possessed by demons'. Raised by a single alcoholic mother and a father she barely knew, she was a troubled child who was sexually abused at a young age and started webcamming at age 16.
Scott also had a fear of being sex trafficked as well as at one point believing that she was related to the Kennedys and that someone was trying to assassinate her. 'I don't know anything about demons,' Lecompte-Goble told Rolling Stone. 'I've never met someone who you could say "they're possessed by a demon." But there was a demon inside this girl.'. Scott's aunt Linda echoed her ex-husband's sentiments, telling The Sun, 'She was stalked by demons like no one will ever understand unless you've lived it.'.
Then battling a fentanyl addiction, Scott attempted to get clean multiple times, but would always leave rehab after a few days and then return to porn. She starred in over 300 films throughout her career, but by the end she was escorting and meeting fans for money. 'She was at the point where she was doing anything... she had no business working,' her friend and fellow performer Kianna Bradley told Rolling Stone in 2021, shortly after Scott's death.
'She was not in her right mind. It was very known. If anyone tells you any different, they are lying,' Bradley added. The two years prior to Scott's death were filled with personal tragedies for the young star. Her mother died in 2019 following a long battle with alcoholism, and then her grandparents passed in 2020 from Covid. On top of that, Scott lost her beloved dog Eli. She was publicly outed as an escort on a gossip blog and was arrested again, this time on misdemeanor charges.
In 2020, Scott went viral and was 'canceled' after flashing her breasts in front of a mural of the late George Floyd shortly after his death. Sharing the offensive image to social media, Scott wrote, 'Happy #GeorgeFloyd day in #santabarbara <3 #dakotaskye equality&fair treatment for all. Dope mural (sic).'. In 2020, presumably while under the influence, Scott went viral and was 'canceled' after flashing her breasts in front of a mural of the late George Floyd shortly after his death.
At 27, she was discovered dead in a homeless encampment in downtown Los Angeles. The post went viral and Scott was met with extreme backlash, both online and in the mainstream media. A few weeks later, Scott was found dead in the drug-riddled neighbourhood of Skid Row, located in downtown Los Angeles. The night before her death, Scott had turned up at the home she shared with her boyfriend and publicist, who both refused to let her inside.
