It’s the time of year where we feel a hard-hitting sense of Christmas comedown and struggle to name which day it is: yes, it’s Twixtmas. The time between Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve is typically earmarked for lie-ins, leftover beige picky bits and staying inside, but it also presents a unique opportunity to discover some great music, theatre, art and film across the capital.

Why? Those with family outside of the city are yet to return, tourists are nowhere to be seen and public spaces are sparse. The pandemonium that builds up throughout the month - the frantic shopping, drunken work parties and heaving public transport – has finally ceased, which provides a chance for those seeking something more than sitcoms in bed to explore London’s cultural delights away from the crowds.

The film legend has achieved a lot in a career spanning more than half a century (Golden Globe records, appearing in some of the most successful movies of all time, the list goes on), but she’s not stopping yet. This month, Weaver imade her debut on the West End stage – in a limited run of Jamie Lloyd’s revival of The Tempest. It’s the first time a Shakespeare play has been performed at Theatre Royal in almost 70 years, and she’ll star as Prospero. A thrill to see one of the greats performing in London.

December 26, 27, 28 and 30. Theatre Royal Drury Lane, WC2B 5JF. In the last year alone, Elton John has given us a lot. A brilliant Glastonbury headline set? Tick. One of the highest-grossing tours of all time? Tick. The score for the new The Devil Wears Prada musical? Tick again. As of May this year, John and his husband David Furnish have treated spectators at the V&A to a peek into their personal collection of some of the world’s best photography. Featuring the work of esteemed names including Herb Ritts, Cindy Sherman and Diane Arbus, the exhibition closes on January 5, so Twixmas is one of your last chances to experience its magnificence.
