Tyrrell Hatton has admitted he regrets hitting a tee box with his club during the third round of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, after the LIV Golf star fought his way into contention on his DP World Tour return. Hatton will enter the final round at Emirates Golf Club on Sunday just one shot behind leader Daniel Hillier after impressing with a four-under-par 68 in round three. In typical Hatton fashion it was a rollercoaster round, with five birdies, an eagle and three bogeys to leave him at 12-under for the week.
His strong showing on the golf course was however once again overshadowed by an outburst of anger, after the Englishman took out his anger on the seventh tee box. The shot Hatton was venting his frustrations over landed on the putting surface, before he two-putted for his par.
Asked about the controversy afterwards, Hatton responded: "[It was] just a bit of frustration. Yes, probably shouldn't have done it. Does it make me a bad person? No. It's just a spur of the moment thing, and it happened. I can't go back and change it. So move on.".
This is not the first time Hatton's frustration has got the better of him, having recently snapped a club in anger whilst playing at the DP World Tour Championship last November. The Englishman did admit that he was questioned over his actions by Tour officials when finishing his round and signing for his score.
"I was told about it in scoring," the LIV Golf member claimed. "I don't have an issue with what was being said. I mean, yeah, I'm aware that it's not the right thing to do, but I mean, in the heat of the moment when you're frustrated, you just do things that you probably wish you didn't do.
