Referee Roberto Ramirez Jnr will be responsible for officiating the blockbuster rematch between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday night, but the Puerto Rican has been at the heart of real controversy in the past. The two heavyweight stars will go head-to-head for a second time this weekend, with 'The Gypsy King' desperate to level the series at one apiece. The Ukrainian handed the Brit the first loss of his professional career back in May, winning via split decision in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Fury will be looking to avoid suffering back-to-back defeats. Despite all the pressure building up to fight week, the British star has cut a calm and composed figure so far in the Middle East. With a lot on the line this weekend, Ramirez Jnr has been given the responsibility of controlling the proceedings inside the squared-circle.
Ramirez Jnr has previously been at the heart of some real controversy, however. The Puerto Rican was placed in charge of Chantelle Cameron's blockbuster rematch with Katie Taylor last year. Cameron became the first fighter to defeat the Irish star in the ring before suffering a defeat in the sequel.
In the second encounter, Taylor was declared the winner on two of the three judges' scorecards, while the other scored the contest as a draw. Soon after the showdown, Cameron's trainer, Jamie Moore, hit out at Ramirez Jnr - claiming that he was responsible for the Brit's loss.
"She’s obviously devastated, you can imagine,” Moore told BBC 5 Live Boxing. “She just feels like this whole scenario, everything was set up for her to lose. We were sort of determined to prove everyone wrong, similar to what we did last time. But she got away with holding last time. I’m not saying—first of all, I just wanna say, for what I was actually watching, it was a close fight, it could have gone either way.
