UK told to ‘stay inside’ and stock up on essentials after temperatures plummet to -5°C

Brits have been warned to stay indoors as the Met Office upgrades their weather warnings ahead of three days of snow. Forecasters have upgraded some of their warnings for ice and snow to amber over fears rural communities could be cut off. The two new amber warnings, which begin tomorrow evening, warn up to 40cm of snow could fall.
The NHS has told vulnerable people they should avoid going out at the coldest times after a rare amber health alert was issued as temperatures begin to plummet. Drivers found themselves skidding down an icy hill in the moorland around Oxenhope, near Keighley, West Yorkshire, today.
