Cadbury fans hoping to nab themselves free chocolate are being urged to be cautious if they come across offers for gifts online. The chocolate giants have warned that there are ‘fake Cadbury accounts’ doing the rounds online right now, after receiving concerned messages from Brits.

Several people contacted the company on social media, enquiring about ‘realistic’ looking scams that promised free selection boxes of chocolate. However, in order to claim the reward, you would be required to hand over personal details, and in some cases, reveal bank details.

Examples were shared on X (formerly Twitter) by customers, with @Maria35338108 asking: ‘Is noreply@cadbury.co.uk a legitimate email? I’ve had one saying claim a free selection box. Is this real?’. While @LeamYids shared a screenshot of a post they’d spotted on social media advertising a ‘short survey’ that claimed to result in a free ‘ultimate selection box’. Alongside the image he wrote: ‘Scam, right?’.

Similarly, @VickyAlcock claimed to have come across a company she said was ‘conning people’ into signing up for a free selection box, and then charging them £39 per month. In response to this, the official Cadbury UK account said: ‘We’ve been made aware of fake Cadbury accounts claiming to be giving users free gifts and asking for their bank details.

‘We can confirm that those have not been generated by us and would urge you not to interact or share personal information through those links.’. Mimicking a trusted brand like Cadbury is a way in which criminals will often exploit customer trust, and lure them into handing over personal details, in exchange for chocolate that will never arrive.
