Vernon Kay takes cheeky swipe at wife Tess Daly live on stage as he returns to panto

VERNON Kay took a series of cheeky swipes at his wife Tess Daly as he took to the stage for panto this weekend. The Radio 2 DJ, 50, is currently playing Aladdin’s brother alongside Drag Race star La Voix in the production, and made sure the Strictly host wasn’t forgotten.

At one point he joked that that Tess was ‘always moaning about wet towels on the floor’ and during another part, he told La Voix she looked just like his wife. It’s the first time Vernon has returned to the stage since his panto debut in 2022, which led to him winning Best Panto Newcomer at the UK Pantomime Awards.

Vernon kicked off panto this weekend in High Wycombe, near where he lives with wife Tess and their two daughters. Tess has been very busy with the final of Strictly Come Dancing, which she hosts alongside Claudia Winkleman. Vernon recently admitted that doing panto played havoc with his festive plans, telling roundandabout.co.uk: “Well Christmas kind of goes on hold with pantomime because you only get Christmas Day off.

“Two years ago I spent all afternoon in bed because I was so tired. I love Christmas dinner, though, so I won’t be missing that! No, I won’t be getting a takeaway instead, we’ll just do the prep the night before. “So, if we get a chance, I’ll be peeling spuds and carrots when I get back, to have it all ready for Christmas Day. But we do go all in: the whole shebang – we really enjoy Christmas, it’s good fun.”.
