Prepare to pay more if you drive to busiest part of Manhattan New York’s much-debated plan to charge drivers to enter the center of Manhattan is set to take effect Sunday, following years of bureaucratic and legal roadblocks.
During peak traffic hours -- that’s 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends — most cars, SUVs, small vans and pickup trucks during with an E-ZPass will be charged $9, once per day.
Low-income drivers who pay the toll 10 times in a month can apply for a 50% discount on trips they take the rest of the month.
Drivers without an E-ZPass will receive bills by mail and pay more: $13.50 for peak hours and $3.30 overnight.
Motorcyclists will pay half the amount that cars pay during peak.
