WATCH this chilling viral video of the maiden flight of a new ultra-stealth, sixth-generation Chinese fighter jet. Social media was flooded with footage showing the futuristic spy aircraft which defence experts have called the most “advanced” ever.
The stealth jet test flight is the latest in a flurry of advancements in Chinese aerospace engineering. The video shows the huge black jet, named unofficially as the J-36, gliding menacingly through the air. The diamond-shaped "modified delta wing" design has a huge surface area, blotting out a large area of the sky.
No official information has been released about the jet, but experts believe it is the first sixth-generation fighter jet to be launched. It has been claimed the Chinese government wanted footage of the new jet to circulate online because they made no effort to stop the spread of information.
The test flight also happened on December 26, which it is thought was deliberately chosen to coincide with the birthday of Mao Zedong, founder of the People’s Republic of China. Several countries including the US have been racing to develop a sixth-generation jet so, if confirmed, this would be a huge victory for the Chinese air force.
The new jet was flanked by a two-seater Chengdu J-20S chase plane, allowing for some comparison. The unique design is tailless, meaning it uses computers rather than vertical stabilisers to maintain control. Tailless designs are much harder to detect with radar, indicating that this jet will be used for stealth missions.
