Prospective tenants of this compact property are unlikely to consider it a bargain - for the duplex appears to have been created out of a hallway and a landing. The 'well presented' flat features an 'open plan kitchen/diner', and an upstairs 'bedroom' beside the staircase with a bathroom and shower room at one end.

But househunters have slammed a 'duplex apartment' in London that leaves whoever rents it paying £1,000 per month to 'sleep in the stairwell'. Viewers were appalled to see the estate agents listing the property in Catford, South East London, on Rightmove while declaring it an 'incredibly well presented studio apartment'.

However the 'bedroom' appears to be just a bed placed on the landing, crammed between the wall and the banister. A wardrobe lurks behind it and appears only useable by climbing on the bed - which social media users branded 'dangerous' with the treacherous drop over the banister lurking below.

Downstairs, the rest of the living area is an 'open plan' kitchen and lounge according to the listing. But the 'lounge' seems to consist of two chairs and wooden shelves crammed under the stairs and facing the kitchen. The bedroom appears to be a double bed on a landing, jammed between a wall and bannister.

The rest of the living space is just an 'open plan' kitchen and a living area. Underneath the stairs is some chairs and shelves next to a small space for extra storage. Users have sarcastically commented they are surprised the cupboard under the stairs has not been turned into a 'bedroom' too.
