A couple who have spent years four years trying to conceive revealed that IVF has 'robbed' them of enjoying their 20s - even preventing them from going on their honeymoon. Megan and Ryan Larmour, 27 and 28, from Newtonabbey, Northern Ireland, met through mutual friends at the age of 14 and started started dating two years later.

After moving in together and deciding they want a family, Megan stopped taking her birth control in October 2020. But by March 2022, they hadn't been able to conceive and, after tests, a GP informed the couple Ryan has a low sperm count. In delivering the news, the doctor told the pair they had a 0.5% chance of conceiving naturally.

Since then, Meghan and Ryan have tried IVF twice and are now on the waiting list for a third attempt - but they have revealed the financial strain of the treatment has forced them to put their lives on hold. As they wait to hear if they'll be eligible for another round of fertility treatment on the NHS, the couple are saving the pennies to go private if they need to.

Opening up about their heartbreaking battle, the couple say having a child would 'mean the world' to them, so they can give their parents a grandchild. Megan, a postal worker, said: 'Our IVF journey has robbed us of enjoying the last few years of our 20s as it's all we can think about and it stopped us from being able to go abroad on multiple holidays and even our honeymoon as we can't leave the country and need to save our money for treatment.'.
