The procedure would rule him out for at least three months, however it is said the 24-year-old does not want this, while Maresca also said that he did not believe Fofana would need to have surgery either.
According to L’Equipe, Chelsea’s medical team have recommended that the France international undergo surgery to aid his recovery from this injury.
However, all may not be as it seems, with reports emerging that Fofana is aiming to be back on the pitch within a matter of weeks.
The centre-back has been out of action since hobbling off with a hamstring issue during the 3-0 win over Aston Villa at the start of December.
