West Ham lost 2-0 to Crystal Palace at the London Stadium in a match that saw Konstantinos Mavropanos sent off. The Eagles took the lead after the break when Jean-Philippe Mateta fired in. Mavropanos earned a second yellow card on 80 minutes for a high-foot offence against the goalscorer, before Eddie Nketiah won a penalty late on which Mateta scored.
It leaves Graham Potter with one win and two defeats from his first three matches as the Hammers’ new manager. Dom Smith was at the London Stadium to rate the West Ham players’ performances... Lukasz Fabianski 4. Saved from Mateta in the first half but couldn’t get near to his thunderous strike after the break. Smothered Eddie Nketiah when the striker tried to go round the Pole. Gave away a penalty by bringing Nketiah down. Mateta scored (just).
Konstantinos Mavropanos 3. Got himself booked for fouling Mateta. Then a high boot on Mateta saw the Greek sent off. Potter needs Jean-Clair Todibo back sooner rather than later. Max Kilman 4. Backed off Mateta so much that it allowed the Frenchman to hammer home the opener. Gave the ball away in the lead-up to Palace winning their late penalty.
Aaron Cresswell 5. Fumbled a shot in the first half on a rare outing from the start. Hooked as part of a triple substitution on 56 minutes. Aaron Wan-Bissaka 6. Ran the right wing well, tracking back to defend and combining with Mohammed Kudus further forward.
