Modern tradition dictates that it’s no longer acceptable to simply ring in the new year, one must also share a list of things which are set to be cool, and that which will be confined to the dustbin of 2024. Here is the definitive guide to what is in and out for 2025. We think.

One of the hallmarks of civilised society is that you let others off the train before boarding. It is written into the constitution of locomotive travel. Yet I’ve noticed an increasing number of people muscling their way onto tubes and trains first. Some passengers also seem to think it’s acceptable to play music out loud or criminally, scroll TikTok. The people have had enough. This is the year of telling people to use headphones and saying, firmly but fairly, “please let me off the train first”. They might call you a Karen, but luckily that’s very 2024.

With Trump set to move back into the White House within days, the next year is looking bleak for women’s rights. Misandry (dislike and contempt for men) is set to make a comeback. They have been out for years, reminiscent as they are of school jumpers and Neville Longbottom. But the trusty crew neck should be quaking in its boots: the V is back.

It’s time we all got together and had larks. Gen Zs and Millennials are often referred to as the lonely generations, and everyone needs a bit more camaraderie in their lives. Despite being intelligent, affectionate and actually very clean, pigeons have some of the worst PR around. But Gen Z are learning about the wonders of the pigeon and the essential role they played in the olden days, with some even starting to keep them as pets.
