Brits have already enjoyed their first bank holiday of 2025 with New Year’s Day falling on Wednesday. It was the first of eight public holidays that will be happening this year in England and Wales with others to be enjoyed in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Contrary to previous reports, these standard dates are the only ones that will be given. It had been suggested back in November that extra dates were being put aside to mark 80 years since Victory in Europe (VE) Day and Victory over Japan (VJ) Day in 1945.
“We are committed to commemorating these nationally important occasions appropriately which is why we have announced more than £10m to mark them.”. Here is everything we know:. For the upcoming year, England and Wales is currently down to enjoy a total of eight scheduled public holidays.
