After a year’s delay, Tomorrow’s Golf League (TGL) kicks off this week in what Rory McIlroy believes will help bring the sport "into the 21st century". The TGL had been due to begin 12 months ago, but Tiger Woods and McIlroy's virtual league had to be postponed after a power outage caused the collapse of the air-supported dome roof at the SoFi Center.

However, the league is now ready to play out over the next couple of months, as the six teams face each other before the play-offs begin in March. McIlroy is representing Boston and Woods leads the Jupiter Links side, with Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, Shane Lowry and Tommy Fleetwood among the other stars involved.

The TGL begins on Tuesday, January 7 2025 as New York GV take on The Bay GC. Play is scheduled to get underway at 9pm local time, which is 2am GMT in the early hours of Wednesday morning. In the opening match, Rickie Fowler, Matt Fitzpatrick and Xander Schauffele will represent New York, going up against The Bay’s Ludvig Aberg, Shane Lowry and Wyndham Clark.

All matches will be played at the Sofi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. A total of 30 holes have been designed, with 15 used for each match. Around 1,500 fans will be in attendance inside the arena. Teams will pick three of their four players to take part in a match, which will be played over 15 holes.

The first nine holes will be three-man alternate shot format, before six holes of head-to-head singles action. A point is on offer for winning each hole and and the team with the most points at the end of the match is the winner. Should it finish as a draw, the winner, who will receive two points, will be decided by a nearest-the-pin contest.
