A WOMAN has appeared in court charged with murdering a "cheeky" five-year-old boy who was found dead at home. Lincoln Button was discovered at the property in South Ockendon, Essex, after police were called over welfare concerns. Tragically, the youngster was declared dead shortly after the horror on December 15.
Claire Button appeared at Southend Magistrates' Court today charged with murder. The 35-year-old spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth and address during the brief hearing. Button was remanded into custody to next appear at Chelmsford Crown Court tomorrow.
Police previously confirmed she was taken to hospital for treatment and arrested once her condition improved. Tributes flooded in for Lincoln - known as "Link" - following the tragedy. His devastated family said: "Link was a cherished, loved, sweet, beautiful young soul who was adored by all and will be sorely missed every day.”.
Bonnygate Primary School, where Lincoln was a Year 1 student, also paid tribute to the "cheeky, smiley, happy boy". It added: "His love for school, laughter and cuddles will be remembered and missed dearly. “The school is working closely with the authorities and is being supported by Thurrock Council’s education team, who offer support and advice to schools over sensitive issues.
