Paulina Biskup, 38, took to the skies to celebrate the trip of a lifetime while on holiday with her friends and partner in Bogota, Columbia, on Tuesday. But the Polish national, who lived and worked in Dublin, quickly ran into difficulties, which left her hurtling towards the ground in a panic.

As her parachute neared the ground, Paulina slipped from her harness and plunged through the air. Video footage of the scene captures the moment the parachute collapses in on itself, sending her into the tall grass below. Rescue teams rushed to the scene but were unable to revive her, and it is thought she died instantly from the hard impact of hitting the ground, local media report.

An unnamed local official said: ‘It seems she didn’t fasten her harness properly, which caused her to fall.’ Authorities said an investigation into the accident is underway. Paulina took part in the skydive in the town of Roldanillo, known as the paragliding capital of the world.
