WWE Royal Rumble 2025 is this weekend and that means the road to WrestleMania officially gets underway. The 38th annual Royal Rumble event will take place on Saturday at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis and this will mark the very first Premium Live Event (PLE) that is being streamed on Netflix. Debuting in 1988, the Royal Rumble has become one of the most eagerly anticipated PLE’s in the WWE annual calendar with its unique format of an epic 30-person battle providing many unforgettable moments over the past three decades.
This year’s event will once again feature two Royal Rumble matches for the men and the women. The match begins with two superstars in the ring, and every 90 seconds, a new competitor joins until all 30 have entered. A superstar is eliminated if they are thrown over the top rope and both feet touch the arena floor, with the last remaining competitor earning an opportunity for a championship match at WrestleMania this April in Las Vegas.
On the men’s side, it’s arguably the most stacked Royal Rumble match of all time. John Cena, Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Seth “Freakin” Rollins, Jey Uso, Logan Paul, Drew McIntyre and Sami Zayn have already declared for the match and they will be joined by 22 other male superstars. For the women, Bayley, Nia Jax, Liv Morgan, Bianca Belair, Naomi and a returning Charlotte Flair will compete alongside 24 other females for the opportunity to headline Wrestlemania in a championship match.
Meanwhile, there are two championship matches on the undercard as Cody Rhodes puts the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line against Kevin Owens in a high-stakes ladder match where two titles will hang above the ring and the winner will emerge as the undisputed champion in this intense rivalry. In addition, WWE Tag Team champions #DIY will defend their title against former champions Motor City Machine Guns in a 2-out-of-3 falls match.
