Cooking experts have come up with a clever trick to absorb unwanted grease and protect your air fryer from damage. Grease accumulation is common in such appliances, particularly if they're not cleaned regularly, and it can become a fire risk if ignored. For those who often cook fatty foods that release oil, there's a nifty method to prevent grease build-up during meal prep.
The culinary expertat Chewhound suggest popping a slice of bread into the air fryer as a preventative measure. Sometimes, you might see smoke billowing from your air fryer, possibly due to food debris in the drip pan or overfilling the basket. To head off any grease-related problems, Chewhound advises: "On the other hand, if you know ahead of time that something you're cooking is on the greasy side and likely to smoke, try placing a slice of bread in the drip pan.
"The bread will soak up any excess grease that drips into the pan, ultimately preventing that dreaded cloud of smoke from hovering over your kitchen." This tip is especially useful for cooking inherently oily items like bacon, burgers or chicken, reports the Express.
And if you do end up with smoke wafting from your device, Chewhound has an immediate fix for that situation too. On their latest kitchen hack, they've offered a neat trick to handle smoke issues while using an air fryer. They proposed adding just a small amount of water - about a couple of tablespoons - to the drip pan. "The interior heat will quickly turn the water into steam and take care of the smoke problem," they wrote. To keep your air fryer in top condition and minimize greasy residue, ensure to wash the basket after every use.
