Aldi is making life much easier for online shoppers as the supermarket has announced it’s introducing over 200 InPost lockers across its stores. An InPost locker is a secure, 24/7 parcel drop-off and collection point. There are currently 8,000 of these in the UK,, and they’re popular with online shoppers – especially those who use second-hand selling websites such as eBay and Vinted. Sellers drop off their parcels in a locker that they access with a personal QR code via their mobile phone. Once their purchases are shipped to their chosen locker, buyers are then notified and sent a QR code to open it.
Aldi first trialled InPost in December 2023 at 22 of its stores. But now, the retailer has said 260 locations will offer the service. Richard Thornton, communications director at Aldi UK, said: ‘Our customers value conveniences, which is why we’re expanding the availability of InPost lockers across more Aldi stores. ‘By adding lockers at more locations nationwide, customers can now collect or return parcels seamlessly while picking up their shopping at Aldi.’.
Neil Kuschel, CEO at InPost UK, said: ‘Our partnership with Aldi to expand the number of lockers nationwide reflects our shared commitment to providing quick, easy and accessible parcel collection and returns for shoppers across the UK. ‘By installing additional InPost Lockers outside Aldi stores, we’re offering customers the freedom to pick up and drop off parcels at their convenience, without the need to rely on store opening hours or wait in queues.
‘We’re excited to see how this collaboration will enhance the shopping experience, reduce the cost and continue to meet the growing consumer demand for secure, sustainable, and seamless parcel solutions.’. It comes as the supermarket, which was named the UK’s cheapest by Which? for the fourth year in a row last year, announced plans to open nine new shops within the M25 area. The retailer is set to spend £55million in London to open new shops or upgrade existing branches.
This forms part of Aldi’s long-term plan to open 100 more shops in the capital, which it says will create about 3,500 new jobs. Only four of the new locations have been confirmed so far, with Wimbledon in southwest London, Fulham in west London, Orpington in southeast London and Caterham on the Surrey-London border all getting a new branch of Aldi this year.
