Ally McCoist says Leny Yoro was ‘smashed to smithereens’ during Manchester United’s comeback victory against Southampton on Thursday night. Ruben Amorim’s side were staring down the barrel of another defeat after Manuel Ugarte’s own goal gave Southampton a deserved lead shortly before half time.

But a late hat-trick from Amad Diallo salvaged a 3-1 win for United, who move into 12th place in the Premier League. Yoro, meanwhile, endured a difficult evening at Old Trafford as United’s £58 million signing struggled to get to grips with Southampton’s lively winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, who was a constant threat on the Saints’ left flank.

‘Because there’s no right-back look at the space, he’s [Sulemana] exploiting it brilliantly,’ McCoist said during his commentary for TNT Sports. ‘I’m telling you right now he [Yoro] is getting absolutely smashed to smithereens tonight, the poor lad.

‘The unfortunate thing is he [Yoro] doesn’t have a right-back to help him, and to be brutally frank, De Ligt is not helping him either, and he’s got no one sitting in front of him.’. Former United defender Rio Ferdinand said of Yoro’s display: ‘Leny Yoro I thought had a tough evening,.

‘I think the winger gave him a hard gave, the winger showed him today this is the Premier League, you can play against Southampton and there’s going to be tough players to play against. ‘That’s a good learning curve for him, I think he’ll learn from that.’.
