Duchess of Sussex said she was ‘devastated’ by death of family pet. The Duchess of Sussex has shared her devastation at the death of her dog. Meghan, 43, had adopted Guy, a beagle, in 2015. The royal launched a new Instagram account earlier this year, having been on hiatus from social media for six years. On Tuesday night (7 January), she shared a tribute to her late pet in a post on the platform.
“I have cried too many tears to count,” she said. “The type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there. But they are. And that’s OK too.
“Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy. You filled my life in ways you’ll never know.”. Meghan shared a selection of video clips and photographs showing the dog, some of which also featured her children, Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.
The two children can be heard speaking in the clips with identifiable American accents. Meghan and Harry, the Duke of Sussex, have lived in Meghan’s native California since emigrating from the UK in 2020. Meghan also relayed the story of how the family came to adopt the dog nearly a decade ago.
“In 2015, I adopted a beagle from a dog rescue in Canada. He had been at a kill shelter in Kentucky and given a few days to live. I swooped him up…. and fell in love,” she wrote. “They referred to him as ‘the little guy’ because he was so small and frail, so I named him ‘Guy’. And he was the best guy any girl could have asked for.
