ARMED police have swooped on a home in Sheffield after reports of a man with weapons. Residents of the Gateway apartment complex on Broad Street were evacuated last night, South Yorkshire Police have confirmed. University students at the nearby Pinnacles accommodation building have been told to stay inside their flats. Some of those forced out of their homes were staying at the Ponds Forge sports centre.

Cops were called to the scene at just after 7pm. In a Facebook post, the force said: "We, alongside other emergency services remain on scene at Broad Street in Sheffield. "Just after 7pm last night (Monday 10 February) we responded to concerns for a man inside a property, alleged to have weapons and pose a risk to himself. "Those within the building where the property is have been evacuated and those within the neighbouring buildings have been asked to stay indoors while officers conduct their work.
