Arne Slot has invited Jurgen Klopp to return to Anfield and watch Liverpool in action and has even said the former boss can come to training if he wants. Klopp left the Reds at the end of last season after a successful and wildly popular stint in charge.

The German arrived on Merseyside in October 2015 and managed to win a Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and two League Cups during his time at the club. The 57-year-old decided he wanted some time away from management and stepped aside, with Slot having the seemingly unenviable task of replacing the fan favourite at Anfield.

The Dutchman has taken to the job brilliantly, with the Reds sitting top of the Premier League table and breezing into the last 16 of the Champions League. Slot is also relaxed about Klopp possibly returning to Anfield, not worrying that the former boss could be an unwelcome presence while he tries to land major silverware during his first season in charge.

‘I invited him to the [Manchester] City and Real [Madrid] home games but he told me he was somewhere else in the world,’ said Slot. ”He can come here any time he wants, to the games or even to this building (the training ground). ‘For me, he is more than welcome. In the first half of the season he was enjoying life, with his wife, and at this moment he has a job to do.’.
Klopp memorably led the Anfield crowd in a chant for his replacement when he signed off as Liverpool boss in May. After beating Wolves 2-0, the German made an emotional speech to his adoring public and sang the new Arne Slot song in the process. ‘I saw a lot of people crying and it will happen to me tonight because I will miss people, that is clear,’ he said in a speech on the pitch.
‘But as well, change is good. We don’t know exactly what to expect, but if you move with the right attitude everything will be fine because the basics are 100 per cent there and that’s the team and the new manager. ‘You don’t give a s**t what I want you to sing, I know. But I have an idea. I heard the song today a few times, so let’s see how the response will be. Arne Slot! Na, na, na, na na.’.
On his thoughts on Slot, Klopp told ESPN Netherlands in August: ‘Arne, yeah. Really good coach. I was really happy when I heard that Liverpool was going for Arne Slot. ‘I wasn’t involved in anything, it should not be like that, and I’m not this kind of guy in the background, still having some strings and stuff. Like I don’t want that. The club is too big, too good. [The] People are too good.
‘A lot of things changed since we left. But the only concern for me was, will they get a good coach? Liverpool was early and Liverpool got a top, top, top solution in Arne Slot.’. Arrow MORE: David Seaman names Arsenal stars who refused to even warm up together.
