Aubrey Plaza enjoyed a day out to an NBA game just days before her husband Jeff Baena's death. The director and writer died aged 47 on Friday. His assistant found him at 10.25am at his Los Feliz residence in California, with officials confirming that he took his own life. His family have told Deadline that they are devastated by the heartbreaking news and are asking for privacy at this difficult time.
Just two days before his shock death, The White Lotus star Aubrey, 40, was seated in the front row at Manhattan's Madison Square Garden on New Year's Day to watch the New York Knicks play the Utah Jazz. In a snap shared on the team's Instagram, Aubrey leaned to the side as she smiled at the camera.
She wore light blue jeans, a black corduroy jacket and an orange cap. "Starting off the new year with our courtside friends," they captioned the post as they added pictures of Maude Apatow, Judd Apatow, Leslie Mann, Tracee Ellis Ross, Keegan Michael Key, Tracy Morgan and more.
Aubrey kept her marriage to Jeff away from the spotlight, with the two rarely sharing insights into their relationship. Fans didn't even know they tied the knot until Aubrey sneakily shared a loving post on Instagram in early 2021 where she referred to the Horse Girl director as. her 'darling husband'.
"So proud of my darling husband @jeffbaena for dreaming up another film that takes us to italia to cause some more trouble," her caption read. She further confirmed her marriage when she appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in December of that same year where she discussed how they married.
