Bonnie Tyler has revealed she has been asked to take part in Strictly Come Dancing - and explained why she refused the invitation. The 73-year-old music icon is one of the most beloved singers in the UK - and is the woman behind smash hits including Holding Out for a Hero and Total Eclipse of the Heart. With a career that spans back to the 1970s, the star has paraded herself through music videos and taken to the stage around the world.
But the Welsh star has revealed her biggest weakness when it comes to performing is the fact that she cannot dance for toffee. The singer has dismissed her own abilities, declaring that she has "two left feet" and would shudder at the suggestion of dancing. She also revealed she failed to nail routines when her record label drafted in choreographers to work with her. Revealing she had been asked to star on the BBC's dancing reality show, Bonnie explained exactly why she would never appear on the show.
Speaking to Scott Mills on his BBC Radio 2 show, she revealed: "I was asked to do Strictly, but I turned it down. I’ve got two left feet, me. I just can’t dance." Scott, who starred on Strictly himself in 2014, suggested that Bonnie could copy a dance compromise that a major music group seemingly undertakes. He said: "Do you know what Girls Aloud used to do? Chairography. So you can sit in your chair and move your arms a bit. It looks really good, but you’re actually sat down, Bon." Stunned, the 1980's icon gasped: "Really?".
Pressing her for details of her past experience with dance, Scott said: "In the 80s, did they ask you to try and do choreo? Even on Holding Out For A Hero were they like, ‘Oh, maybe you could do…’" Bonnie revealed: "I did have a dance coach for that. It didn’t work at the time." Scott asked: "Did they use the footage?" Bonnie then revealed: "No.". Scott pressed on: "What were they trying to get you to do, then?" Laughing, Bonnie said: "Dance moves. You know, I can’t. I’m not a dancer." During her chat on the radio show, Bonnie revealed she felt she had been swindled out of a fortune when she made one of her biggest music videos. She explained: "You’d be surprised what came out of the royalties. You know, the video costs. I was a bit naive in them days. You know, some of my videos cost over a million quid… Total Eclipse Of The Heart, yeah.".
She continued: "The thing is, the people, like the dancers and anybody working on the set, they were going and walking away with parts of the set and all these silk curtains that were blowing in the wind, you know?
