Nigel Havers has made his feelings abundantly clear on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!. Fans shouldn’t expect to see the actor’s name on the cast list for any future All-Stars series as he hated his original stint in 2010, which was eventually won by Stacey Solomon.

He withdrew from the ITV reality show after just nine days as he struggled to adapt to jungle life. Now, 15 years later, his thoughts on the show haven’t softened at all. While appearing on Good Morning Britain he told hosts Charlotte Hawkins and Richard Madeley that there is no way he’d go back in rather strong terms. ‘I would rather slit my throat than go back,’ he said. ‘Some people really love it like [Christopher] Biggins who won it. It’s horses for courses but I just got so bored because I couldn’t read anything. I have to read and look at things. I had to sit there talking about nothing.’.

It’s unlikely you’ll see him on any reality shows, including Celebrity Big Brother, as he joked that his wife Georgiana Bronfman would ‘kill’ him. While that particular genre doesn’t interest Nigel, 73, he still likes to keep busy. He was on the morning show to promote his upcoming solo UK tour Nigel Havers: Talking B******s in which he’ll tell stories from his life. Of course, the name was never mentioned on the show which airs from 6am to 9am.

The actor has been in Coronation Street, earned a Bafta nomination for the film Chariots of Fire, starred in Steven Spielberg’s war drama Empire of the Sun, and recently appeared in West End play Private Lives. He refers to himself as a ‘letterbox actor’ and explained that this means ‘anything that comes through letterbox I’ll take it.’ Nigel adopts this method as he likes to continually learn more.

Next month he will be starring in ITV drama A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story which is based on a true story. Nigel will be playing his grandad, Cecil Havers, the judge who sentenced Ellis, the last woman to be hung in Britain. On Easter Sunday 1955, Ellis shot and killed her abusive partner. The resulting trial and sentencing have long been debated. ‘When we filmed it, the atmosphere in the court we shot in was electric. It was incredible,’ he said.
