Caleb Miligan (William Ash) is a man in turmoil in Emmerdale currently, having recently endured some shocking revelations about his family, and it’s only set to get worse as a new spoiler video reveals. With the return of their estranged daughter, Steph (Georgia Jay), Caleb and Ruby (Beth Cordingly) hoped they would be able to repair their relationship with her. But no sooner had Steph arrived in the village than she was swiftly followed by her grandfather Anthony (Nicholas Day).

It was immediately apparent that Ruby was traumatised by her father’s presence in the village and only managed to tolerate it because Steph had a bond with her grandfather and threatened to go with him if Ruby made him leave the Dales. Ruby’s stress over her father being around led her to do something incredibly reckless, when she slept with her brother in law Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) while his wife was having brain surgery.
Both of them regretted it immediately afterwards and have been trying to forget it ever since, but the incident has been like an unexploded bomb in both their lives. The reason that Ruby was so upset over Anthony being back on the scene was soon revealed when we learned in upsetting flashback scenes that he’d sexually abused his daughter when she was a teenager. Even worse, a DNA test proved what Ruby had long feared but had tried to ignore – that Anthony, and not Caleb, was Steph’s biological father.
Caleb’s world crumbled when he found out he wasn’t Steph’s dad, and his heart broke for Ruby when he found out what Anthony had done. Ruby insisted that Steph should never find out that Caleb wasn’t her father. Caleb confronted Anthony, holding him at gunpoint while trying to make him admit to what he’d done. Cunning Anthony managed to turn the tables to some extent, by revealing to Caleb his discovery that Ruby had slept with Cain.
Since Anthony vanished – killed by Ruby, but the body disposed of by John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) – Caleb has been seething over the knowledge that his brother slept with his wife, though Cain has denied it. In upcoming episodes Steph unwittingly adds fuel to Caleb’s suspicions by telling him that she saw an awkward interaction between Cain and Ruby.
